Positive Psychology Program (P3) — the science of flourishing.

A structured course in the science of wellbeing — turning what research tells us about strengths, meaning and positive emotion into skills you practise in everyday life.

About the program

Wellbeing, studied and applied.

Positive psychology is the study of what helps people and communities to flourish — strengths, positive emotion, meaning, engagement and good relationships. P3 is a 12 to 18 session course that helps you learn these ideas and apply them to your own life.

Positive emotion

Building more room for gratitude, hope, savouring and optimism — without ignoring the hard parts.

Engagement

Finding flow: using your strengths in the activities that absorb and energise you.

Relationships

Strengthening connection through active, constructive ways of relating to the people who matter.

Meaning

Clarifying what gives your life purpose, and acting more often in line with it.

Accomplishment

Setting and pursuing goals that reflect your values, and noticing progress along the way.

Who it's for

For building on strengths, not just fixing problems.

P3 suits people who want to invest in their wellbeing and growth. It can run on its own, or alongside therapy for a specific concern.

  • You're coping, but you'd like to feel more engaged and fulfilled.
  • You want to understand and use your character strengths.
  • You're working on recovery and want to rebuild positive resources.
  • You're drawn to a structured, skills-based approach.
  • You'd like practical tools for gratitude, optimism and meaning.
  • You want to strengthen your closest relationships.

P3 is grounded in the science of wellbeing. It complements, and does not replace, treatment for a diagnosed mental health condition — your psychologist will help you decide how it fits alongside your care.

Program themes

A guided journey, session by session.

The full course runs across 12 to 18 sessions. The exact pace and mix are tailored to you; these are the themes it typically moves through.

Your best self

Beginning with a real-life story that called on the best in you — and setting the direction for the work.

Character strengths

Identifying your signature strengths, and the ideas of engagement and flow.

Strengths in action

Turning strengths into SMART goals you can practise between sessions.

Working with the negative

Understanding how difficult experiences and symptoms are maintained — and can be reframed.

Forgiveness & gratitude

Practices that help loosen resentment and build a steadier, more grateful outlook.

Optimism & hope

Exploring good-enough versus maximising, and building a more hopeful outlook.

Positive communication

Active, constructive ways of responding that strengthen relationships.

Strengths of others

Recognising and drawing on the strengths of the people closest to you.

Savouring & legacy

Savouring good experiences, and the wellbeing that comes from giving your time to others.

The full life

Bringing it together — positive emotion, engagement and meaning — with a plan to keep the momentum.

Around the mid-point, you and your psychologist review progress together, revisit anything unresolved, and adjust the plan to suit how you're tracking.

What you can take away

Wellbeing you can keep building.

P3 is applied — you learn by doing. People often finish the course with things like these.

1

A strengths toolkit

A clear map of your signature strengths, and practical ways to put them to work.

Self-knowledge
2

Positive habits

Simple, repeatable practices for gratitude, optimism and savouring the good.

Everyday
3

A fuller life

A personal plan for meaning, engagement and connection that outlasts the program.

For the long run

Flourish

Wellbeing is a set of skills —
and skills can be learned.

P3 turns decades of wellbeing research into practices you can use for life.

Common questions

Things people ask before starting.

How long does the program take?
The full course runs across 12 to 18 sessions, usually weekly. Your psychologist tailors the pace and length to your goals.
Is P3 therapy or a course?
Both, in a sense. It is a structured, skills-based course grounded in wellbeing science and delivered by a psychologist. It can run on its own or alongside therapy for a specific concern.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can enquire directly. A GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan are only needed if you'd like to claim Medicare rebates for eligible sessions.
Can P3 be done online?
Yes. The program can be delivered by secure telehealth video anywhere in Australia, or in person in Parramatta.
Is it individual or group?
P3 can be delivered one-on-one or in a small group. Ask us which options are currently running.
