Understand where your strengths lie.

Aptitude testing uses validated, standardised measures to map academic and work-related abilities — so decisions about study, training and career direction rest on evidence, not guesswork.

When it helps

Reasons people consider aptitude testing.

Aptitude testing measures what you have the capacity to learn and do — useful whenever a decision hinges on a clear, objective picture of ability.

  • You are a student choosing subjects, a course or a career direction and want objective guidance.
  • You are weighing up university, TAFE or a training pathway and are not sure where your strengths sit.
  • You are an adult considering a career change or a return to study.
  • An employer or program needs an objective measure of job-related ability.
  • You want to know which skills to build to reach a specific role or goal.
  • You would like your abilities measured alongside your interests, to plan your next step with confidence.

Every assessment starts with a clear question. We agree on what you want to learn before we begin, and make sure the report answers it.

What we measure

A clear picture of ability and achievement.

Validated, standardised tools administered and interpreted by a qualified psychologist — turning test scores into practical, usable findings.

Aptitude & reasoning

Verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning that indicate your capacity to learn new skills and solve problems.

Academic achievement

Reading, writing and mathematics measured against standardised benchmarks, such as the WIAT-III.

Aptitude batteries

Broader batteries such as the MAB-II that profile abilities across several domains.

A written report

A clear report you own, translating scores into recommendations for study, training or work.

Aptitude testing is conducted by a qualified psychologist. Every assessment includes a feedback session where we explain the findings in plain language.

  • No Medicare rebate: aptitude and achievement testing sits outside Medicare, so a Mental Health Care Plan does not apply.
  • NDIS & funding bodies: some NDIS plans, employers or programs fund testing when it supports a plan or goal.
  • Private health: check your extras cover — some policies contribute towards psychological assessment.
Common questions

Things people ask before booking.

Do I need a referral for aptitude testing?
No. You can book aptitude testing directly. If a school, employer or funding body has asked for specific measures, let us know and we will make sure the report meets their requirements. You will receive a written quote first.
How long does aptitude testing take?
Most assessments involve an intake, a testing session and a feedback session, usually completed over a couple of appointments. We will give you a clear timeline and a written quote before you start.
Is aptitude testing covered by Medicare?
No. Aptitude and achievement testing is not covered by Medicare. Some NDIS plans, employers or private health extras may contribute, depending on your circumstances, and we can provide invoices to support any claim.
Can aptitude testing be done online?
The intake and feedback sessions can be held by telehealth. The standardised tests are best administered in person so results stay valid, so at least one in-room appointment is usually needed.
Who receives my results?
Your report is released only to you, or to people you nominate in writing, apart from narrow legal exceptions your psychologist explains up front.
