Confidence · Self-belief · Assertiveness

Confidence you can build.

Confidence is not something you either have or you do not — it is built, step by step. Therapy helps you quiet the inner critic, speak up for yourself, and start backing your own judgement. In Parramatta or online.

Sound familiar?

When self-doubt calls the shots.

Low confidence is quiet but costly — it shrinks the choices you make and the chances you take. You do not have to feel bold to start; you just have to start.

  • You hold back from opportunities in case you fail or look foolish.
  • A harsh inner critic narrates everything you do.
  • Speaking up, saying no, or asking for what you need feels hard.
  • You compare yourself to others and always come up short.
  • You second-guess decisions long after you have made them.
  • Success feels like luck, and you wait to be "found out".
  • You let other people set the direction because you doubt your own.
  • You avoid challenges, then feel flat about staying small.

Confidence is a skill, not a personality you are stuck with. Low confidence often travels with anxiety or low self-esteem, and a psychologist can help you build it back deliberately. This is information, not a diagnosis.

How therapy helps

Practical, and built on evidence.

Your psychologist draws on the approaches with the best evidence for confidence and self-belief, and tailors the work to what would help you most.

CBT

Cognitive behaviour therapy — catching the self-critical thoughts that undercut you, and building fairer, more accurate ones.

Assertiveness skills

Practical ways to speak up, set boundaries and ask for what you need — without tipping into aggression or apology.

ACT

Acceptance and commitment therapy — taking action toward what matters, even when self-doubt tags along for the ride.

Building self-esteem

Naming your strengths, practising self-acceptance and setting reachable goals, so success starts to feel earned.

Confidence tends to grow through small, repeatable wins — we build those into the plan, and review your goals together as you go.

Fees & funding

Know your costs before you start.

We confirm your fee and any rebate in writing before your first session. If a funding body covers you, we bill them directly wherever possible.

Common questions

Things people ask before booking.

Do I need a referral to start?
No — you can book directly at any time. A GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan is only needed if you would like Medicare rebates on your sessions.
Can confidence really be built?
Yes. Confidence is far more a skill than a fixed trait. With practice — challenging the inner critic, building assertiveness, and stacking up small successes — most people find their self-belief grows over time.
Is confidence the same as self-esteem?
They are close cousins. Confidence is your belief that you can handle a task or situation; self-esteem is your overall sense of worth. They tend to lift together, and you can explore our self-esteem support too.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you discuss stays confidential, with narrow legal exceptions such as a risk of serious harm, which your psychologist explains up front.
Can I do sessions online?
Yes. Telehealth is available Australia-wide and works well for confidence-focused therapy. You can switch between in-person and online at any time.
