Trauma & PTSD Therapy at Mind Health

How it helps

Trauma-focused therapies are first-line treatments for PTSD, recommended by the WHO, NICE, Australia's NHMRC and Phoenix Australia. Mind Health offers trauma-focused CBT and EMDR within a phased, paced approach — establishing safety and stability first, then reprocessing traumatic memories, then consolidating gains.

Care is trauma-informed throughout: you stay in control of the pace, and the work is adapted for single-incident or complex, developmental trauma.

Who it's for

People affected by single-incident or complex trauma — flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, numbing or avoidance that hasn't settled on its own.

What it helps with

  • PTSD
  • Single-incident trauma
  • Complex / childhood trauma
  • Flashbacks & nightmares
  • Hypervigilance
  • Avoidance & numbing
  • Grief

What to expect

Safety & stabilisation

We build coping resources and a sense of safety before any trauma processing.

Processing

Using trauma-focused CBT or EMDR, distressing memories are processed at a pace you control.

Integration

We strengthen adaptive beliefs and check gains hold across situations that used to trigger you.

Fees & funding

Therapy sessions may attract a Medicare rebate under a Mental Health Care Plan (Better Access) — ask your GP whether you're eligible for up to 10 subsidised sessions a year. Most private health 'extras' also cover psychology. We'll explain the gap fee before you book.

Common questions

Will I have to relive the trauma in detail?
No — modern trauma therapy is carefully paced and you stay grounded in the present. You're always in control of the pace.
Which approach do you use?
Trauma-focused CBT and EMDR — both first-line, evidence-based treatments. Your clinician will recommend the right fit.
How many sessions?
Single-incident trauma often resolves in 8–12 sessions; complex trauma is paced to you and may take longer.
Do I need a referral?
No, but a GP Mental Health Care Plan lets you claim the Medicare rebate.
